Two Karnataka Gang Killings Prompt Police Manhunts

Investigators point to personal rivalries in both cases with key suspects on the run.

Overview

  • In Mysuru, a 38-year-old identified as Venkatesh was dragged from his car near the Dasara Exhibition Grounds and hacked to death by assailants who arrived in an autorickshaw and on two-wheelers, police said.
  • In Gangavati, Koppal district, BJP Yuva Morcha town president Venkatesh (31) was chased, his bike rammed near Leelavathi Hospital, and he was fatally attacked by a group using rods and other weapons.
  • Police registered cases and formed multiple teams in Mysuru and Koppal, collected CCTV footage in the city case, and seized a car believed to have been used in the Gangavati attack from HRS Colony.
  • Family members in the Gangavati case named a man called Ravi as the main accused, with police saying a long-running personal dispute is suspected and that Ravi and associates are absconding.
  • Local reporting in Mysuru says the victim had earlier warned police about threats and prior attempts on his life, while separate reports on the Gangavati killing cite an intra-party leadership rivalry within BJP factions.
