Two Indian Tourists Sentenced to 5 Years and 12 Strokes for Robbing Sex Workers in Singapore

The pair pleaded guilty to assaults in two hotel rooms and received the statutory minimum under Singapore’s robbery-with-hurt law.

Overview

  • Arokkiyasami Daison, 23, and Rajendran Mayilarasan, 27, admitted to voluntarily causing hurt while committing robbery.
  • In a Jalan Besar hotel room, they tied and slapped a woman and stole jewellery, SGD 2,000 in cash, her passport, and bank cards.
  • Hours later on Desker Road, they dragged a second woman, covered her mouth to silence her, and took SGD 800, two phones, and her passport.
  • The crimes surfaced after the second victim told another person the next day, leading to a police report and the men’s arrest.
  • In mitigation, both cited family financial hardship in India; the offence carries five to 20 years’ imprisonment and at least 12 cane strokes.
