Two in Critical After Stabbings on London-Bound Train as Police Rule Out Terror Motive

Two UK-born men in their 30s remain in custody on suspicion of attempted murder.

Overview

  • British Transport Police say 11 people were treated in hospital, four have been discharged, two remain in a life‑threatening condition and there have been no fatalities.
  • The attack occurred on the 6.25pm LNER service from Doncaster to London King’s Cross, which made an emergency stop at Huntingdon where armed officers arrested two suspects within eight minutes of the first 999 call.
  • Counter Terrorism Policing initially supported enquiries and the Plato protocol was briefly invoked before BTP confirmed there is currently nothing to indicate a terrorist motive.
  • The suspects are a 32-year-old Black British man and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent, both UK‑born and being questioned at separate police stations on suspicion of attempted murder.
  • Huntingdon station was cordoned off and East Coast Main Line services were disrupted, with police increasing visible patrols and appealing for witnesses to contact BTP quoting reference 663 of 01/11/25.
