Two IDF Soldiers Killed in Rafah Tunnel Attack, Three Wounded

The military reports follow-on strikes across southern Gaza targeting a tunnel network.

Overview

  • Maj. Yaniv Kula, 26, and Staff Sgt. Itay Yavetz, 21, from the Nahal Brigade’s 932nd Battalion, were killed in southeastern Rafah.
  • The attack occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the Salah a-Din road in an area under IDF control as part of a ceasefire framework, where troops were dismantling Hamas infrastructure.
  • Initial IDF findings say militants emerged from a tunnel, fired an RPG at an excavator, and used sniper fire against a second engineering vehicle and nearby personnel.
  • Three soldiers were wounded, including a Combat Engineering Heavy Equipment Unit (TZAMA) reservist who was critically injured and hospitalized, and the IDF says no abduction attempt was made.
  • The IDF says it carried out immediate air and ground strikes across southern Gaza, including attacks on tunnel infrastructure previously used to hold hostages.
