Two I-15 Fires in Davis County Leave Drivers Critical After Consecutive Crashes

Back-to-back wrecks on the same corridor triggered closures with gravel cleanup plus rescues by troopers and firefighters.

Overview

  • On Wednesday shortly before 11:30 a.m., a multi-vehicle crash near 400 North in the Bountiful area involved a dump truck that caught fire and spilled gravel across the freeway.
  • Utah Highway Patrol said the dump truck driver was hospitalized in critical condition, and KSL reported additional people were critically injured with details still pending.
  • Southbound lanes were closed for cleanup and later reopened in the early afternoon, while northbound traffic was reduced to two lanes with significant delays.
  • On Tuesday around 6:30 p.m. in nearby Centerville, a separate multi-vehicle crash set a car ablaze, and UHP troopers rescued a trapped man who was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
  • South Davis Metro Fire and UHP led rescue and transport efforts at both scenes on the same stretch of I-15 within about 24 hours.
