Two Hurt in Thane Ceiling Plaster Fall, 10 Rescued in Separate Chawl Slab Collapse

Officials ordered structural checks after classifying the Sai Mamta block as a C2B-risk building.

Overview

  • Ceiling plaster fell inside a home at Sai Mamta in Wagle Estate around 6:45 a.m., injuring an 11-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man, according to Thane’s disaster management cell.
  • Sai Mamta is an approximately 30-year-old, four-storey structure with 12 flats and a terrace room that has been listed in the C2B category requiring structural repairs.
  • The incident was reported to the municipal department for assessment and necessary action, officials said.
  • In a separate case at Sanjay Mhatre Chawl in Diva, a first-floor gallery slab failed Sunday night, trapping 10 residents who were later rescued by fire brigade personnel.
  • All 40 flats in the Diva chawl were vacated as a precaution; the single-storey structure, estimated at 15–20 years old, is not on the dangerous-building list.
