Overview
- Emergency services were called about 1.15pm Thursday to the southbound Hume Highway between Sallys Corner Road and Penrose Forest Way.
- A light rigid truck towing a heavy horse float overturned, trapping the 27-year-old driver for about two hours.
- SES crews stabilised the vehicle before paramedics and a rescue helicopter airlifted the driver to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.
- Police said one horse died at the scene and another was euthanised due to injuries, and seven others were taken for treatment.
- The 26-year-old tractor driver was uninjured and underwent mandatory testing as police inquiries continue, and several lanes were closed in both directions for a time.
