- Powell County E911 used RapidDeploy to provide exact coordinates and live cellphone video to locate the injured hikers.
- Crews established access through a private field as rescuers hiked in with a SKED stretcher, a wheel rigid litter, and high-angle rope gear.
- Both patients were stabilized on scene and flown by separate medical helicopters to UK Chandler Medical Center in Lexington in stable but serious condition.
- The multi-agency rescue, involving Powell County EMS, Middlefork Fire and Rescue, and Wolfe County Search and Rescue, lasted several hours with the scene cleared just before 10 p.m.
