Overview
- Detectives were alerted Thursday to a possible burial at a property in the 1900 block of Roberts Road near Wilmington, officials said.
- After obtaining a search warrant, deputies detained several people around 9 a.m. Friday and called in crime scene investigators.
- The remains were recovered about three feet underground inside what appeared to be an Old Style Beer box wrapped in plastic and cloth, with a makeshift headstone marking the site.
- A 36-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man were interviewed and made incriminating statements about concealing the infant’s death, according to the sheriff’s office.
- The Will County Coroner has taken custody of the remains, identities have not been released, and formal charges could follow the autopsy.
