Overview

• Six friends from Goregaon visited Chinchoti waterfall for a swim on July 14 though none were proficient swimmers.
• At around noon a sudden surge in monsoon-swollen water swept away 22-year-old Prahlad Sahajrao and 24-year-old Sushil Dabale.
• The remaining four friends escaped to safety and notified the Bapane police post around 1 p.m.
• Fire brigade teams recovered the bodies after an exhaustive five-hour search operation.
• The incident renews concerns over inadequate signage, barriers and supervised access at popular natural water sites during the monsoon season.
