  • Victims were identified as 12-year-old Zemfira Mukhtarov of Brooklyn and 13-year-old Ebba Morina of Manhattan, found on a Brooklyn-bound J train at Marcy Avenue around 3:10 a.m. Saturday.
  • NYPD said each teen suffered a head injury and died on the roof of the train.
  • Investigators believe the girls met online and snuck out late Friday before the fatal ride, according to reporting from police and family.
  • Police interviewed teens seen at the scene, including three boys taken aside at the station, and a police source said a fellow surfer called 911.
  • Transit leaders reiterated the MTA’s Ride Inside, Stay Alive campaign and stepped-up enforcement, and officials noted at least five subway-surfing deaths in 2025 following six in 2024.
