Overview

• Fire crews arrived shortly after 10:20 a.m. on Sept. 17 to a home fully engulfed on the 6800 block of Maple Lane Road in rural Tompkins Township.
• After the blaze was brought under control, firefighters discovered a 46-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman dead inside the residence.
• Michigan State Police are investigating how the fire started, and autopsies have been ordered to determine how the victims died.
• Authorities have not released the victims’ names.
• Neighbors said the couple had lived in the ranch-style home for more than 20 years, and the structure was gutted with its framing still standing.
