Two Drownings on Russian River Claim Lives of Juvenile and Man

  • At 2:53 p.m. Sunday at Monte Rio Public Beach, two juveniles were seen struggling and bystanders rescued one while the other disappeared underwater.
  • Deputies located the second juvenile about 20 minutes later, performed CPR and pronounced the minor dead at the scene.
  • Less than an hour later at 3:49 p.m., deputies found an adult male unresponsive at Martinelli Beach and CPR attempts were unsuccessful.
  • The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office has extended its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
  • These drownings follow other recent river fatalities in Northern California and highlight the heightened risks of summer swimming in local waterways.
