Two Die in Separate Louisville Motorcycle Crashes Days Apart

Initial police findings point to excessive speed in both cases.

Overview

  • LMPD said the downtown collision occurred shortly after midnight at 2nd and Market Streets when a car turned right from the center lane and a fast-traveling northbound motorcycle struck the passenger side.
  • The downtown rider was taken to UofL Hospital and later died, while the car’s driver was not injured.
  • In a separate incident around 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on I-265 South near mile marker 5 by the New Cut Road exit, investigators reported the motorcyclist was speeding and weaving before losing control.
  • Police said the I-265 rider left the roadway into a wooded area, hit a pole, was ejected, and died Saturday after being hospitalized at UofL since the crash.
  • LMPD’s Traffic Unit is investigating both crashes, and the Jefferson County Coroner will release the I-265 victim’s name after next-of-kin notification.
