Overview

  • The 27-foot Sea Hunt center console departed West Haven after a dinner at Shell & Bones and capsized immediately after colliding with the west breakwall shortly after 9:30 p.m. Wednesday
  • Connecticut State Police divers recovered the bodies of Stratford residents Cynthia Ferk and Floyd Maxson on Thursday, with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner pronouncing them deceased
  • Neither victim was wearing a life jacket as required under state boating regulations, a lapse that DEEP officials are scrutinizing
  • Search operations by the U.S. Coast Guard, DEEP and state police combined cellphone ping data, marina security footage and Coast Guard aircraft patrols to locate the capsized vessel
  • DEEP and Coast Guard crews continue raising the submerged boat, probing its collision with the jetty and urging boaters to avoid the breakwall area
