Two Detained as Mega Search Continues for Missing Rural Teacher in Corrientes

Judicial raids, detentions, CCTV analysis show authorities are treating the case as a criminal probe.

Overview

  • Nancy Estela Godoy, a 52-year-old teacher and acting director at Escuela Rural Nº 626 in El Malezal, was last seen on Oct. 6 while traveling to the school and has not been found.
  • More than 80 police and rescue personnel are conducting a large operation using vehicles, 12 horses, four drones and three search dogs to comb flooded fields, dense scrub and remote trails.
  • The Unidad Fiscal of Esquina ordered multiple allanamientos and two people who were reportedly the last to see Godoy have been detained as investigators seek evidence.
  • Family members say lights were on and some of Godoy’s belongings were left at the school, leading them to reject the idea she got lost and to suggest she may have been deceived.
  • Poor phone coverage, storm-flooded access and reliance on local residents for horse transport have complicated early searches and will shape investigators’ next steps as they analyze CCTV and gather community tips.
