Overview
- Wednesday morning crashes on the A9 in Saxony-Anhalt produced two separate fatal incidents that forced long closures and heavy emergency deployments around the Leipzig/Halle area.
- At Sandersdorf-Brehna a car moved from the middle to the right lane and struck a lorry, killing the 31-year-old front-seat passenger and leaving the 58-year-old driver and a six-year-old seriously injured.
- Around midday near Wiedemar a three-lorry chain collision at the end of a traffic jam left the driver of the striking tractor-trailer dead and the A9 closed for extended recovery work.
- Other, unrelated crashes across the region included a transporter-on-truck collision on the A14 near Gröbers that injured two people and several motorcycle collisions in Wellen, Berlin and Tyrol that produced serious injuries and required airlifts to hospital.
- Police and rescue services said forensic clearance and vehicle recovery will keep closures and major delays in place into the evening and drivers were urged to avoid the area and follow diversion instructions.
