Two Crashes Lift Catalonia’s 2025 Road Death Toll to 102

Officials highlight heightened risk for motorcyclists, with a rise in fatalities among people under 35.

Overview

  • In Vidreres (Girona), a head-on collision on the N-II at km 691.7 shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday killed both drivers, a 23-year-old woman from Amer and a 54-year-old man from Sils, and left a passenger in critical condition at Hospital Josep Trueta.
  • On the B-10 Ronda del Litoral in Sant Adrià de Besòs around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 24-year-old Barcelona motorcyclist, identified as A. A.C., left the roadway, struck the median and later died at Vall d’Hebron.
  • The Servei Català de Trànsit updated the year-to-date death count to 102 and said investigations into both crashes are ongoing.
  • From January through August, SCT recorded 90 fatal accidents with 97 deaths, a slight increase from 94 deaths in 86 accidents during the same period in 2024.
  • SCT data show motorcyclists account for 30.9% of the 97 deaths through August, men represent about 79%, the 55–64 bracket records the most deaths, fatalities among people under 35 rise to 37.1%, and the AP-7, A-2 and C-58 corridors post the highest totals.
