Two Crashes Close Major Roads in Ipswich
Emergency services are investigating serious collisions on Colchester Road with a separate, later crash on Felixstowe Road that caused major travel disruption.
Overview
- A pedestrian was struck by a car on Colchester Road and Suffolk Police were called at 3.40pm on Tuesday, prompting a closure from the Norbury Road junction to the Renfrew Road junction while emergency crews attended.
- A separate collision on Felixstowe Road near Trinity Park occurred just after 5.15pm on Tuesday when a man in his 70s on a bicycle was hit by a car and was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital with potentially life‑threatening injuries.
- Police closed Felixstowe Road between the Murrills Road roundabout and the Straight Road junction and the stretch reopened at about 12.20am on Wednesday after scene work and clear-up.
- Emergency services at both scenes included ambulance crews and the air ambulance, and officers have asked witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact the Roads and Armed Policing Team quoting reference 37/59265/26.
- Drivers were urged to avoid the affected routes as closures caused delays across Ipswich and investigations into the cause and full extent of injuries remain under way.
