Two Container Trucks Collide on Ghodbunder Road in Thane, Injuring Traffic Cop and Choking Traffic

Authorities ordered urgent road fixes before the Ganesh festival following the oil spill crash on the busy corridor.

Overview

  • The collision occurred around 7:39 am near Gaimukh Ghat when a Vapi-to-Nhava Sheva container lost control and struck an oncoming container headed from Mumbai toward Surat.
  • Both lanes were blocked as a heavy oil spill was cleared using jet-pipe water pressure, with a hydra, a crane, and a rescue vehicle deployed by disaster management, fire brigade, and traffic police teams.
  • Traffic Constable Sanjeev I. Tadvi of the Kasarvadavali unit suffered head and leg injuries and was taken to Titan Hospital, where he received stitches.
  • One truck carried 23 tonnes of plastic bags and the other 16 tonnes of imported machinery, and cleanup and vehicle removal slowed traffic for roughly two hours with queues reported up to Fountain and Navghar.
  • Civic officials issued a directive for immediate pothole repairs across Thane to make roads traffic-worthy before Ganesh festivities.
