Two Charged With Murder in Highbridge Killing After Neighbor Dispute, Police Say

Police cite a building dispute as the trigger, with court proceedings pending.

Overview

  • Bronx residents Beyonce Johnson, 24, and Saleh Ceesay, 21, were arrested and charged with murder and manslaughter in the death of 30-year-old Shashamanie Thompson, according to the NYPD.
  • Officers responding around 10 p.m. Dec. 27 to 1182 Ogden Ave. found Thompson unconscious with stab wounds to her face and abdomen; EMS took her to Lincoln Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
  • Johnson lived in the same building as Thompson, and both suspects were taken into custody at the scene less than an hour after police arrived, authorities said.
  • Police say the fatal encounter followed a dispute between neighbors, while witnesses reported hearing an argument and cries for help before the stabbing.
  • Precinct data show eight homicides recorded this year through Dec. 21 in the NYPD’s 44th Precinct, compared with 16 by the same point in 2024, and the investigation in this case remains active.
