Two Charged After 9 Kilos of Cocaine Found in False-Bottom Cigar Boxes in Brooklyn

Prosecutors cite a joint DEANYPD probe with lab confirmation of the seized drugs.

Overview

  • Jose Leonardo was arraigned Friday in Manhattan Supreme Court, while Yenky Gil was arraigned on a related indictment in May.
  • Agents on April 16 tracked Leonardo to 33 Crosby Avenue in Cypress Hills, obtained a warrant, and recovered boxes from the home and his Nissan Rogue.
  • Inside three cardboard boxes were 45 wooden cigar boxes whose false bottoms hid thin bricks of cocaine pried from the undersides.
  • DEA testing identified about nine kilograms of cocaine and nearly one kilogram of ketamine, with prosecutors valuing the cocaine at roughly $300,000.
  • Leonardo was released in June on $100,000 bail with electronic monitoring, and officials say Gil remains in custody as the prosecution proceeds.
