Two Central Saanich Police Officers Arrested and Charged with Sexual Assault
The officers are accused of forming inappropriate relationships with a vulnerable woman they met while on duty; one also faces a breach of trust charge.
- Sgt. Matthew Ball, 43, and Constable Ryan Johnston, 40, of the Central Saanich Police Service have been charged with sexual assault following an investigation by Vancouver police.
- The alleged incidents occurred between 2019 and 2023 for Ball, who also faces a breach of trust charge, and in early 2020 for Johnston.
- The investigation began on October 28 after a woman in her mid-20s came forward with allegations of unlawful sexual contact by the officers.
- Authorities state that the two officers did not act together but formed separate improper relationships with the woman, who was in a vulnerable position at the time.
- Both officers were taken into custody on Tuesday morning and appeared in court later that day for bail hearings, while police continue to seek additional information from the public.
