Overview

• Just after midnight on May 30, two men sleeping inside the Browns Plains tobacco shop to protect it were injured when intruders poured an accelerant and set the building alight.
• The 47-year-old and 54-year-old sustained serious burns and remain hospitalized at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.
• Flames gutted the tobacco store and caused smoke damage to neighboring businesses, including a fish and chips shop and a computer retailer.
• This incident follows a December arson at a Fortitude Valley tobacco shop and aligns with a series of deliberate attacks on tobacco retailers in Brisbane.
• Police have appealed for any dashcam or CCTV footage from Forestglen Crescent to help identify those responsible and prevent further attacks.
