Overview

• Police arrested Mohammad Irfan Mohammad Munir Chowdhary (41) and Mohammad Akram Mohammad Ismail Shaikh (58) on July 13 and booked them under sections 318(4), 336(2) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
• Raids on July 9 and 10 at two Dahisar godowns uncovered a 200-tonne stockpile of expired food grains, cereals, flour, sugar, rice, dry fruits and household items.
• Investigators found labels torn from the products and the items repackaged in plastic and gunny bags for resale in Bhiwandi and surrounding areas.
• Authorities traced the spoilt stock back to consignments sent by an e-commerce company for safe destruction but diverted by a Bhiwandi recycling firm.
• Police are now mapping distribution channels to curb public health risks and strengthen oversight of third-party disposal protocols.
