Two Bahia Road Crashes Kill Two, Injure Eight on Jan. 5

Police opened inquiries into both collisions, including a negligent-homicide probe in the Camaçari case.

  • In Camaçari on BA-530, a two-car collision killed Damião Nascimento dos Santos, 47, and injured five, according to the Civil Police.
  • Initial findings indicate the vehicle carrying Damião struck a car pulling out from the shoulder, and the case is under review by the 26th Territorial Police Station in Vila de Abrantes as negligent homicide in traffic.
  • On BR-116 at km 648 (Reta da Coalhada) between Jaguaquara and Jequié, a pileup involving two cars, a pickup, and a truck killed André Fernandes da Silva, 53, and injured three, the Federal Highway Police reported.
  • The three injured from the BR-116 crash were treated at Hospital Prado Valadares in Jequié and discharged, and André’s body was taken to the Jequié IML with burial planned today in Vitória da Conquista.
  • Authorities have not released the conditions of the five injured in the Camaçari crash or funeral information for the victim in that case.
