Overview
- Storm Boelo followed Storm Austen over the weekend and produced gusts of about 84 mph that toppled trees, damaged coastal structures and cut power across northern Britain and parts of northern Europe.
- Police Scotland confirmed late Sunday that a 60-year-old man was killed by a falling tree near Castle Douglas and other people were treated for storm-related injuries in Scotland and elsewhere.
- Energy operators reported that the two storms affected about 838,700 British properties at peak and that roughly 90,600 customers remained without power by Sunday evening as crews worked to restore supplies.
- Transport was widely disrupted with train, metro and ferry services cancelled or suspended and dozens of flights diverted or cancelled while Network Rail and rail operators worked overnight to clear debris and repair overhead lines.
- The Scottish Government convened its Resilience Room to coordinate response, flood warnings remain active in parts of Scotland, and forecasters warn more windy, wet weather early next week that could slow restoration efforts.
