Two Arrested in Spain in Separate Child Sexual Abuse Material Investigations

Digital forensics by specialized cyber units led to the identifications, with courts now reviewing extensive seized material.

Overview

  • Policía Nacional detained a 29-year-old in the province of Segovia on September 25 after seizing two phones holding more than 100 child sexual abuse files, some described by police as extremely severe.
  • The Segovia inquiry began in May within Castilla y León’s cybercrime group with support from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which police credit with helping identify the suspect.
  • In a separate case, Guardia Civil arrested a 56-year-old in Vitoria after a mother in Ávila reported messages to her 13-year-old in April, leading to a court-authorized search of the suspect’s lodgings.
  • Forensic analysis in the Vitoria case catalogued more than 5,000 videos (about 2,500 with pedophilic content) and roughly 150,000 images (around 4,000 classified as child sexual abuse material), and flagged suspected grooming of other minors.
  • Authorities note the Vitoria detainee had a prior conviction with an active ban on contacting minors, and both men have been placed at the disposal of judicial authorities as investigations continue.
