Two Arrested in Sohana Sword Killing as Manhunt Continues

Two suspects are on two-day remand as police search for two other accused.

Overview

  • The Sept. 4 assault near Dera Sahib Gurdwara in Sohana left 63-year-old Paramjit Singh dead and several relatives injured as the family returned from buying a second-hand car.
  • Police identified the arrested men as Harnoor Singh (also reported as Harnur) and Dharampreet Singh (also reported as Tarampreet), picked up from Sector 70 and produced in court for police remand.
  • Investigators said two more suspects remain absconding, named in one report as Varinder Singh and Malkit Singh, with raids underway and district resources on alert.
  • The complaint alleges the attackers used swords/kirpans, vandalised the family’s vehicle, and shouted religious slogans, and that the men were known locally through a shop called Vintage Look.
  • Police are examining CCTV, witness accounts, and forensic findings while probing differing accounts that cite either a traffic-side dispute or an earlier gurdwara spat as the precursor; officials are also reviewing videos of subsequent street violence.
