Two Arrested in Separate NYC Subway Attacks After Spate of Platform Violence

  • Ivan Negron, 39, was taken into custody Thursday when an officer recognized him at Union Square, and he was charged with attempted assault for allegedly pushing a 35-year-old onto the tracks at Sunset Park’s 36th Street station on Jan. 18.
  • According to the NYPD, the Sunset Park victim and assailant were strangers and the victim sustained minor injuries treated at NYU Langone HospitalBrooklyn.
  • Investigations continue into other incidents from the same period, including two additional station slashings and an L train assault under review by the NYPD Hate Crimes Task Force, as officials note major subway crime fell 4% last year but transit incidents have ticked up this year.
