Two Arrested in Petaluma Jewelry Heist, Four Others Still Sought

A bystander who rammed the suspects’ unattended car into the storefront prompted the group to flee.

Overview

  • Police say six people armed with hammers, pepper spray and a gun smashed display cases at Gold Rush Jewelers around 4:46 p.m. Saturday.
  • One suspect pointed a firearm at employees, who were not physically harmed, while the intervening bystander was pepper-sprayed and treated for minor injuries.
  • Four suspects escaped in a vehicle later found abandoned nearby that investigators determined had been stolen from Brentwood.
  • With help from a sheriff’s helicopter and community reports, officers arrested 18-year-olds William Butler Clarence and Moshae Koron Howell after finding them hiding in backyards.
  • Four accomplices remain at large and the firearm has not been recovered, and police ask anyone with video or information to contact Detective Alyssa Hansen at 707-781-1291 or ahansen@cityofpetaluma.org.
