Overview

• Agents from the National Police unit assigned to Galicia in Lugo and the Xunta’s forest-fire investigation unit led the operation.
• The fires were set in the parishes of Goiriz and Lanzós in the municipality of Vilalba.
• Incidents occurred between 23:00 and 03:00 along forest-track edges and mostly affected wooded areas.
• No traces of accelerants or ignition devices were found, and the pattern near the suspects’ homes suggested an intent to cause social alarm.
• The Xunta says the UPA has identified 23 people so far this year who have been detained or investigated for suspected arson.
