Two Arrested in New Haven Halloween Shooting as 17-Year-Old Is Charged With Murder

Investigators say the gunfire followed a street altercation involving Charles Woodall.

Overview

  • Police identified the juvenile as 17-year-old Dalon Jett and said he will be tried as an adult after ballistics linked his gun to the killing of 18-year-old Alexa Acevedo.
  • Charles Woodall, 19, was accused of firing the first shot and faces charges including first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm, reckless endangerment, and carrying a pistol without a permit.
  • Authorities said a third shooter is being sought and that the person’s name is being withheld pending arrest.
  • Assistant Chief David Zannelli said Acevedo was struck by a stray bullet during an exchange of fire between two groups, and she died shortly after arriving at Yale New Haven Hospital.
  • Two others were wounded—18-year-old Alissa Hamberg and 21-year-old Elijah Marrow—in the 2:34 a.m. Nov. 1 shooting near Church and Center streets during large Halloween crowds, officials announced at a Tuesday briefing.
