Overview

  • An FIR under BNS Section 64(2)(k) was filed at Loni police station based on the father’s complaint that his 23-year-old daughter, who had hearing and speech impairments, reported being raped.
  • The woman left home on August 18 and was found near Nithora village about three hours later, where she indicated to her family that she had been assaulted.
  • She was discovered hanging at her home on August 21, with police treating the death as a suspected suicide and sending the body for a postmortem examination.
  • Police arrested Rohit Kumar and Vir Singh, alias Bhola, near Nithora after they were shot in the legs during what officers described as retaliatory fire, and investigators say the pair admitted to the assault.
  • Officers cited CCTV and phone data in identifying the suspects and said gang-rape charges would be added, as earlier reports mentioned three suspects while the detained men claimed no others were involved; relatives and activists accused police of delayed action.
