Two Arrested in Cyberattack on Kido Nursery Chain

The operation follows a ransomware report alleging the theft of thousands of children's records from Kido by a group calling itself Radiant.

Overview

  • Specialist officers searched residential properties in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, detaining males aged 17 and 22 on suspicion of computer misuse and blackmail.
  • Both suspects remain in custody for questioning as the Metropolitan Police continue inquiries after an Action Fraud referral on 25 September.
  • The case involves hackers who said they stole names, addresses and photographs linked to about 8,000 Kido children, with profiles of around 10 posted on a darknet site.
  • Radiant has claimed responsibility and reportedly demanded a ransom, with The Times reporting a request for £100,000 in bitcoin; the group later told the BBC it deleted the data, a claim not verified by authorities.
  • Kido told parents the breach involved data hosted via software provider Famly, which says its systems were not compromised, and technical investigations continue.
