Two Arrested in ₹8.71 Lakh Chief Minister Relief Fund Fraud

Theft of relief fund cheques from a vacated minister’s office enabled the fraud scheme, police say.

Overview

  • Jogula Naresh Kumar, a former data entry operator in a minister’s camp office, and Balagoni Venkatesh, an MPDO subordinate, were arrested on July 16 by Jubilee Hills police.
  • Officers allege the pair seized 230 undisbursed Chief Minister Relief Fund cheques and enlisted accomplices to submit forged beneficiary claims.
  • The operation siphoned Rs.8.71 lakh by depositing funds for 19 inactive beneficiaries at a nationalised bank branch in Jubilee Hills.
  • Two suspects, Korlapati Vamshi and Pulipaka Omkar, remain at large as five criminal cases under IPC and IT Act sections proceed at Jubilee Hills police station.
  • Post-2023 election relocation of a former minister’s camp office from the Secretariat left undisbursed relief fund cheques vulnerable to theft.
