Overview
- Shortly after 4 a.m. on May 25 in Parkchester, two assailants forced the 27-year-old officer to the ground, punched and kicked him and threatened him with a knife before stealing his Glock 19, wallet and iPhone.
- NYPD and U.S. Marshals identified the attackers as 23-year-olds Taveon Hargrove and Wayne Lucas after reviewing surveillance footage and released their images to the public.
- Federal marshals apprehended Hargrove in North Chesterfield, Virginia, on May 27, using the handcuffs of the very officer he assaulted as part of a law enforcement tradition.
- Authorities arrested Lucas on May 28 following his identification by police, leaving both suspects pending extradition to New York for attempted murder, assault and robbery counts.
- Commissioner Jessica Tisch said the officer underwent surgery for multiple facial fractures and is expected to make a full recovery.
