Two Arrested as Assam STF Seizes Tokay Geckos, Slow Loris and 10.63 Kg of Pangolin Scales

Investigators are examining possible international trafficking links tied to the seizure.

Overview

  • The intelligence-led operation took place during the night of November 6–7 in the Kuthori area near Jakhalabandha in Nagaon district.
  • The arrested suspects are Bidya Singnar, 30, and Samson Kathar, 29, both residents of the Rongmongve area in Karbi Anglong.
  • STF teams, supported by the Wildlife Crime Control authority and the forest department, intercepted the duo on a Honda Glamour motorcycle near a local playground.
  • Seizures included six tokay geckos, one live slow loris, approximately 10.630 kilograms of pangolin scales, the motorcycle, and two mobile phones.
  • An FIR was lodged at Jakhalabandha Police Station and a case registered by the Bagori forest ranger under the Wildlife (Protection) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, with probes into a suspected Kaziranga origin and intended overseas trafficking.
