Two Arrested After Gunfire at Unoccupied Police Car Leads to Humboldt Park Crash

Area 5 detectives are probing the crash in Humboldt Park that followed suspects firing at a vehicle and an unoccupied police car.

Overview

  • A late-night confrontation began around 11:30 p.m. when occupants of a silver car pointed a gun at two men near Cicero and Addison avenues.
  • The suspects chased the victims to the 25th District station at 5555 W. Grand Ave., opened fire and struck their vehicle as well as an unoccupied patrol car.
  • Officers pursued the suspects on a nearly three-mile high-speed chase that ended when their vehicle crashed into parked cars on North Pulaski Road.
  • After the crash, the suspects fled on foot but were apprehended by responding officers; a weapon was recovered and charges are pending.
  • No injuries were reported, and the Chicago Police Department’s Area 5 detectives have launched an investigation.
