Two Armed Robberies Target Shops in North Rhine-Westphalia

Immediate manhunts are under way with no arrests reported.

Overview

  • Police say two masked men robbed a shop in Oberhausen-Osterfeld on Thursday afternoon and stole multiple cigarette packs worth a three-digit euro sum.
  • Officers reported that during the Oberhausen attack one suspect threatened an employee with a telescopic baton and the pair fled on foot after lightly damaging a parked car.
  • In the early hours of Friday a separate attempt to rob a kiosk in Moers was repelled by a 31-year-old employee after two men on e-scooters fired at least one shot into the air and used pepper spray.
  • Both victims suffered only light or no injuries and the Moers suspects escaped without taking goods or cash, while police in both towns released descriptions and asked witnesses to come forward.
  • Investigations are being led by local police and the criminal investigation units and remain open as authorities continue searches and collect witness tips.
