Overview
- Two men fishing off the rocks at the Blue Pool near Doonbeg fell into the sea, and a coordinated search later found them dead.
- The Coast Guard helicopter R115 located both bodies in the water and the Aran Island Lifeboat recovered them in very rough conditions.
- MRSC Valentia directed the operation with the Kilkee and Doolin Coast Guard units, while Gardaí, the fire service and civil defence attended the scene.
- Rescue controllers described waves reaching the cliff tops and said the turbulent water made survival unlikely for anyone swept in.
