Two £1 Million Winners in October Premium Bonds Draw

The government-run scheme pays tax-free prizes by random monthly draws that deliver many small payouts instead of guaranteed interest.

Overview

  • NS&I's October 1 draw produced two £1 million winners located in East Sussex and Somerset, and the results were posted on NS&I’s prize checker on October 2.
  • The draw awarded 6,546,849 prizes worth about £498.4 million in total, including scores of six-figure awards and hundreds of mid-size payouts.
  • One winning bond came from a £5,900 purchase made in May 2018 and the other came from an £11,000 purchase made in July 2026, with the winners holding £50,000 and £16,000 in total respectively.
  • Premium Bonds are run by National Savings and Investments using an electronic random-number system called Ernie, new bonds must be held for a full calendar month to be eligible, and individual holdings range from a £25 minimum to a £50,000 cap.
  • More than 22 million people hold Premium Bonds with over £137 billion held overall, the published odds per £1 bond are roughly 21,000–22,000 to one, and most savers will receive lower effective returns than from many interest-bearing accounts.
