Twitch Modifies Simulcasting Policy, Allows Streamers to Broadcast on Competing Platforms

New policy permits simulcasting across all platforms, but with strict guidelines including maintaining equal or superior Twitch service quality and prohibiting sharing of streaming links during a Twitch broadcast.

  • Twitch has expanded its simulcasting policy to include all live streaming platforms, a change announced at TwitchCon 2023, thus allowing streamers to broadcast on competing platforms such as YouTube and Kick.
  • The modification in policy does not apply to streamers with an exclusivity agreement with Twitch; these streamers are not permitted to simulcast on other platforms.
  • Simulcasts must meet or exceed the quality of Twitch broadcasts in terms of engagement and video quality, ensuring the Twitch audience doesn't receive a lesser experience.
  • Streamers are forbidden from sharing links to their simulcast on other services during a Twitch stream, though they can indicate where they'll be simulcasting in the 'About' section of their channel.
  • The policy restricts the use of third-party services to combine activities across platforms, such as merging chats. However, streamers can use these tools for personal use.
