Twinsburg Firefighters Rescue 8-Month-Old From Basement Blaze, Infant Reported in Good Condition

Overview

  • A 911 call around 12:20 p.m. Sunday reported a basement fire with a baby trapped at a home on Simsbury Drive in Twinsburg.
  • Police attempted to reach the basement but were driven back by heavy smoke as firefighters launched an aggressive attack and conducted a VEIS search.
  • Crews found the infant behind a closed bedroom door, carried him outside for treatment, and transported him to University Hospitals Ahuja Medical Center.
  • Several Twinsburg officers and the homeowner were evaluated for smoke inhalation, no other injuries were reported, and two dogs and six cats were located safely.
  • Damage was largely confined to the basement with losses estimated at over $90,000, mutual-aid units from Solon, Oakwood Village, Aurora, Macedonia, Hudson and Streetsboro assisted, the Red Cross is helping with housing, and the cause remains under investigation.
