Twins' Byron Buxton Leaves With Left Knee Contusion After Hit-by-Pitch

The club provided no immediate timetable for his status.

Overview

  • Buxton was struck on the left knee by a 91.3 mph pitch from Royals starter Michael Lorenzen in the fifth inning at Kauffman Stadium.
  • He was examined on the field by head athletic trainer Nick Paparesta and manager Rocco Baldelli, stayed in to run and play center in the bottom of the fifth, then was removed before the sixth.
  • The Twins announced a left knee contusion, and James Outman replaced Buxton in center field.
  • Earlier, Buxton led off the game with a 402-foot solo shot for his 30th homer, becoming the second Twin with a 30-homer, 20-steal season, joining Kirby Puckett (1986).
  • Minnesota beat Kansas City 5-1, a result that left the Royals two games back of the final American League wild-card spot.
