- The voluntary recall began on Oct. 25 after federal and state testing detected Shiga toxin–producing E. coli, including O103, in unopened cheese samples.
- Three infections were reported in Washington and Oregon between Sept. 5 and 16, including a child under 5 and one hospitalization.
- Peterson Company distributed affected products to retailers, caterers, and restaurants in Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington between Aug. 14 and Oct. 24, and says no illnesses are linked to its repackaged cheeses.
- Recalled Whatcom Blue, Farmhouse, Peppercorn, and Mustard Seed cheeses were made from raw unpasteurized milk and sold as 2.5‑pound wheels or 5–6‑ounce pre‑cut half‑moons.
- FDA and state health agencies advise consumers to discard recalled items, sanitize surfaces they touched, and seek medical care if symptomatic, with refunds available at the point of purchase.
