Overview

  • Two separate blazes ignited Thursday morning near Kneeling Camel on the north rim and near the south rim’s west boundary, park spokeswoman Lori Rome confirmed
  • The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control is leading containment efforts, deploying multiple engines including Engine 3411 to the north rim fire
  • Colorado State Patrol troopers have evacuated all visitors, staff and nearby campground residents, and no injuries have been reported
  • The Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management is coordinating with local agencies to support both evacuations and firefighting logistics
  • Forecasts of gusty winds up to 40 mph and persistent low humidity under a red-flag warning through 8 p.m. are complicating efforts to secure the perimeter
