Twin Cyclones Hamoon and Tej Threaten India and Arabian Peninsula
Cyclone Hamoon to hit Andhra Pradesh, bringing rainfall to other southern states, while Cyclone Tej, intensifying into an extremely severe cyclonic storm, is set to cross Yemen-Oman coasts without impacting Indian west coast.
- Twin cyclones, Hamoon and Tej, are bearing down on the Arabian Peninsula and India, respectively. Cyclone Hamoon, named by Iran, is set to hit Andhra Pradesh, threatening rainfall across several southern states.
- Cyclone Tej, named by India, is intensifying into an extremely severe cyclonic storm and expected to cross the Yemen-Oman coasts. Reports indicate that it is not anticipated to impact the Indian west coast.
- Hamoon and Tej are notable for occurring concurrently. This phenomenon of twin cyclones happening simultaneously, one in the Arabian Sea and another in the Bay of Bengal, is relatively rare.
- The IMD forecasts that Hamoon will cause moderate rainfall, particularly in coastal states. Consequently, authorities have advised farmers to harvest mature crops by October 23 to avoid potential rain damage.
- Forecast data further suggests that Hamoon will weaken as it nears the Bangladesh coast and is set to cross between Khepupara and Chittagong on Wednesday. On the other hand, Tej is heading towards the coasts of Yemen and Oman and is expected to cross these coasts on October 24.
