TV Personality Andy Cohen Falls Victim to Debit Card Scam

The scam, currently under investigation by the NYPD Cyber Security Unit, involved sizable wire transfers and call forwarding activation, leading to significant financial loss.

Andy Cohen, TV personality, fell victim to an elaborate debit card scam after losing his card and responding to a fraudulent email that appeared to be from his bank's fraud alert.
The scammers gained access to Cohen's bank account and tricked him into authorizing several sizable wire transfers and activating call forwarding, which allowed them to intercept calls from his bank.
Cohen discovered the scam when he visited his bank branch the following day and found out that money had been wired out of his account.
The NYPD Cyber Security Unit is currently investigating the theft.
Impersonator fraud, like the one Cohen fell victim to, has been the most reported scam for years, with more than 600,000 cases reported in the U.S. in 2023, amounting to more than $2 billion lost, according to the Federal Trade Commission.
