Overview
- Polling stations are open on Sunday from 7:00 to 23:00 and on Monday from 7:00 to 15:00 for about three million eligible voters, with counting due to begin Monday afternoon and results expected in the evening.
- Turnout at noon on Sunday was 9.72% based on 2,098 of 3,922 sections, down from 14.73% at the same time in 2020.
- There are three candidates: incumbent Eugenio Giani supported by PD, M5S, AVS and Casa Riformista; Alessandro Tomasi backed by FdI, Lega, Forza Italia, Noi Moderati and the civic list È Ora!; and Antonella Bundu for Toscana Rossa.
- Under Tuscany’s electoral law a candidate wins in the first round with at least 40% of the vote, otherwise a runoff is set for October 26; split-ticket voting is allowed, and PD and Lega are using a closed regional list mechanism.
- Recent polls place Giani around 53–58%, Tomasi roughly 36–42% and Bundu 2–4%, as the centre-right closed its campaign with a Florence rally by national leaders and the Lega gauges the effect of Roberto Vannacci’s role.
